Voltiq together with Eland, a leading Spanish private equity fund investor, and technical advisor Ingenostrum, is realizing one of the first professionally structured solar PV greenhouses on the island of Sardinia, Italy.
The projects entail the realization of greenhouses of which the roof consists partly of solar PV modules. A leading international vegetable and fruit production and commercialization company will cultivate crops like rucola and basilicum inside the greenhouses, ensuring biological and sustainable production through the elimination pesticides-use. Instead of occupying agricultural land with solar PV plants, solar greenhouses foster the co-existence of agriculture and energy, as well providing for a radical change in business model of greenhouse operators. The first projects started commercial operation by end December 2010.
